The core values of the BIONDOIL philosophy are being a stepping stone towards a better world by creating sustainable solutions for fundamental human needs. Such as clean drinking water, renewable energy and respect for nature and biodiversity.

The uniqueness of Biondoil is their expertise in the development of next generation renewable biofuels and chemicals providing climate friendly energy solutions and living conditions for all. They focus on non-disruptive short to midterm circular processes to (help to) create these solutions. Co-creation and -production with innovative parties with different backgrounds are essential to reach these goals. Biondoil is also one of the participants in our CHAPLIN programme.

Climate change and valuable living conditions for everyone are primary drivers. Ivar: “Climate change is apparent and inspires us morally to change the way we use natural resources and to find sustainable alternatives. Today’s challenge for tomorrow is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced to fight climate change.”

An insight in their business models

In the bio-ethanol refinery in Rotterdam third generation biomass is used (waste of trees logged for timber from sustainable forest – no food-applicable biomass). The main product is bio-ethanol primarily used for biofuel. Other main product streams are lignin, acetic acid and furfural which find their way to the advanced chemical industry. Ivar: “We can sell the bio-ethanol to industrial partners, e.g. as added component in petrol for conventional cars. Furthermore liquid CO2 is an interesting source as glasshouse industry fertilizer component (plants need CO2 to grow). And lignin provides an excellent sustainable base for asphalt, coatings and other chemical applications. Last but not least the knowledge about these processes can be used in our concept of bio hubs for rural areas. One business model leads to another. The business models are beads on a string increasing the potential success factor and reducing the risk of external factors.”
